Pre-conference to Office Support Professional Conference...

Communicating with your Teammates
May 1, 2018 (Tues. 1:00-4:30pm)
Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center, Alexandria

(This course is also being offered on January 10, 2018 at the Best Western Plus Kelly Inn in St. Cloud).

Successful collaboration in your co-op takes place when everyone works to build a supportive climate with positive communication skills and constructive feedback skills. Through a variety of activities and discussions, you will examine your role as a communicator and fellow employee.  You will learn to build a positive environment by giving constructive feedback, handling defensiveness, and listening effectively. You will also explore the rapid rate of change, the forces that are driving that change, and the impact on the shifting face of a more unique and diverse workforce. You will use interactive activities to explore and challenge your understanding of the unique differences in expectations and communication among the various generations within your co-ops' workforce.

Learning Objectives:

·        Identify components of effective communication.

·        Use techniques for improving listening.

·        List steps for communicating non-defensively.

·        Identify your own communication style and describe the characteristics of other styles.

·        Give constructive feedback statements and "I" messages.

·        Describe ways to positively influence others.

·        Discuss the driving factors that have made generational shift an issue now.

·        Explore its impact on organizational achievement of business objectives, team cohesion, and talent goals.

·        Recognize and learn skills to effectively bridge the generation gaps.
