Zach Eichten, from Rosemount, Minnesota, is working as a Government Relations and Environmental Regulation intern at NRECA this summer. The exciting part of this story is that Zach represented Dakota Electric Association on the Minnesota Rural Electric Youth Tour in 2013.

After Youth Tour, Zach helped create a video for Dakota Electric explaining what the Youth Tour program is and why students should go. He also remembers the good work of Dakota Electric from when he worked for the Parks and Rec Department in Rosemount. He said, “Dakota Electric came to our safety day and taught children how to be safe around electricity.”

Zach attends St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota, and is majoring in Political Science and Economics. He hopes to work in public policy in St. Paul or Washington, D.C. and noted, "I would love to work with cooperatives in the future, and I believe in their mission and think they do a great job representing their members."

Zach is going through the NRECA internship with 21 other interns who live in the same apartment building. Luckily, he didn’t have to scour DC looking for housing. He says, “I really enjoy the feel of the city. It’s very welcoming and full of history; I am just excited to be near that.” About the internship, Zach shared, “So far, I have been excited to learn about the innovation that co-ops are doing. I will be putting together a series of case studies on the Consumer Centric Cooperative highlighting the great new ideas and initiatives co-ops offer.”
