Design Engineer

East River Electric Power Cooperative has an opening for a Design Engineer with a great career opportunity.  We are looking for knowledgeable engineers who can prepare and review designs and specifications for our transmission system.  The ideal candidate will have the ability to provide engineering guidance on designs while ensuring compliance with internal, federal and state standards.   

East River Electric is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative with a service area that covers 40,000 square miles. We deliver wholesale power to our members, which include 24 rural electric distribution cooperatives and one municipally-owned electric system in eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. Our members, in turn, power the properties of the member-owners in their service territories.

This job opportunity is located at our main campus in Madison, South Dakota. Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, prepare and review plans and specifications for transmission lines and substations
  • Ensure the cooperative's compliance with internal, federal and state standards
  • Assist with the overall development of the electrical system
  • Coordinate multiple complex projects while effectively communicating with internal and external personnel

Key requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or electrical engineering
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or the ability to obtain such license within four years of hire
  • Proven project management ability
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to develop positive working relationships
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Auto-CAD, PLS-CADD, and MS Office products
