Connexus Energy provides electric service to customers in a 7-county area, north of Minneapolis and Saint Paul. We believe increasing public awareness about electrical safety is an important responsibility. Our goal is to provide training in the communities we serve, live and work to help reduce the number of accidents and injuries that occur each year due to electrical hazards. As our Electrical Safety Instructor, you will present or co-present information and demonstrate the consequences of unsafe activities near power lines. Audiences for the safety demonstrations include students, construction companies, and emergency personnel such as fire, police, EMS or others. Our training materials, trailer, and demonstration techniques consistently receive positive results from audiences. If you want to be part of this rewarding community service and pick up a few extra hours by working on a limited part-time basis, we want to talk with you. Great opportunity for a teacher or former lineworker during the summer months and/or on weekends.

Key Responsibilities & Results:
  • Present electrical safety programs to various audiences
  • Promote a strong public image for Connexus Energy
  • Promote practice of electrical safety at home and at work
  • May assist with light maintenance of equipment

Hours: A flexible schedule is ideal to accommodate audience needs. There is some seasonality with more demonstrations conducted during the summer months. Hours worked will vary and can range from 0 hours one week to 15 hours another. Presentations may occur weekdays, evenings or weekends.

Compensation: This position offers a competitive wage. As a part-time position, it is not eligible for benefits.

  Required Talents, Skills, Expertise, Education:

  • Associates degree OR 2 years' experience in electrical, teaching, training, sales, or safety
  • Comfortable speaking/presenting to groups (2nd grade up to senior citizens)
  • Knowledge of electrical safety principles and practices
  • Ability to perform light maintenance on trailer with use of simple tools
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to successfully meet the Physical Abilities requirements
    • Stand and talk for long periods of time - up to 60 minutes
    • Sit, walk, bend, reach - set up equipment used in demonstrations
    • Push/pull up to 75 lbs - position cart and equipment
    • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs – boxes and Hazard Hamlet unit

Preferred Talents, Skills, Expertise, Education:

  • Power line work experience or working knowledge of an electrical distribution system:
    • Current or former power line worker or electrician, or
    • Current or former teacher (preferably with electrical or construction experience or knowledge but not required)
    • Vocational/technical college degree or diploma
  • Truck driving background or willingness to learn.
    • Commercial Drivers License (CDL) not required but desired.
