Joyce Peppin joins MREA as Director of Government Affairs & Counsel

The Minnesota Rural Electric Association (MREA) is pleased to welcome Joyce Peppin as Director of Government Affairs & General Counsel.  The MREA is a statewide association representing the state’s 51 rural electric cooperatives, which bring reliable electric service to 85% of Minnesota’s land mass, and about a third of its population.

After fourteen years representing district 34A in the Minnesota House of Representatives, Peppin has resigned from her seat to focus on this position.  As Majority Leader in the Minnesota House of Representatives, she emphasized collaborating within her party and across the aisle to find common ground.  Darrick Moe, MREA President & CEO, is looking forward to having Peppin on board. “We solve problems by working with a broad range of stakeholders.  Peppin’s skills and track record demonstrate her knack for doing just that.” Moe noted.  As Director, Peppin will explore policy options for furthering the interests of rural electric cooperatives in Minnesota’s dynamic energy policy landscape.  Her experience, including service on the Legislative Energy Commission, and interest in policy make this an excellent fit.

Peppin’s background includes serving as Vice President of Public Relations at US Bancorp.  She has held numerous positions of leadership in national organizations, including serving on the Executive Committee of the bi-partisan National Conference of State Legislatures.   She received her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas.

Jenny Glumack, MREA’s Manager of Legislative Affairs, will continue to lead MREA’s efforts at the legislature. She shared that “Joyce will be an excellent addition as we plot out strategic goals and direction.  She is a pleasure to work with, and I look forward to her joining the team.”
