Krista Benjamin has been hired as MREA’s Director of Education & Communication. Krista was with Great River Energy (GRE) for over eleven years. She served as the grid modernization program manager and a transmission strategic project specialist for the past few years. In this role, she developed and hosted major conferences for GRE’s members and led member outreach, education, and communication efforts.

She has a Master’s in Public Administration from Hamline University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from St. Catherine University. Krista lives near Princeton, Minn. with her husband Brent, a transmission lineman at Great River Energy, and three children. She has a passion for travel; meeting new people and sharing new experiences, and also enjoys time at the cabin, fishing, and reading. In June, Krista ran her first Spartan race – a 3+ mile course with 20+ obstacles. Her goal in 2019 is to earn a Spartan Trifecta – completing a 3+ mile Sprint, an 8+ mile Super, and a 12+ mile Beast with 20-30 obstacles per race.

Krista said: “As a Grand Rapids native, I’m proud of my rural roots and the values instilled in me. I genuinely admire and respect the role electric cooperatives play in the vitality of their communities and believe that this is an exciting time for our business. With much to learn, I look forward to working with you and applying my experience in service of the MREA membership.”

Krista can reached at krista@mrea.org or 763-424-7235.
