The Miller Dwan Burn Center, an Intensive Care Burn Unit at the Essentia Health Hospital in Duluth, was presented with a donation totaling $12,469.00 from  proceeds from the 12th Annual MREA Burn Center Benefit Golf Tournament. The foundation staff expressed their thankfulness to our participants and sponsors. Miller Dwan Foundation President Traci Marciniak said, “We are always so amazed and impressed by your ability to raise funds for our burn unit and the dollars keep growing.”

Traci shared how the funds donated from the 11th annual event along with a matching gift from CoBank were used in a letter to MREA dated September 27, 2017:

Last year, MREA and CoBank funds, in addition to purchasing supplies, primarily for children, were used to provide state-of-the-art education to several clinicians. This education, offered by the American Burn Association, would otherwise have been financially unattainable. By allowing this educational opportunity, clinicians were trained to understand and utilize the absolute newest burn care strategies and latest research. From thermoregulation to inhalation injuries and more. Clinicians then brought their learning back to the [Miller] Dwan Burn department for those unable to attend.

As technology changes and a younger workforce joins the burn team, the American Burn Association training was critical. And so we can say, that with your help, the Essentia Health Dwan Burn Team not only meets and exceeds all essential performance criteria and competencies, it is among the very best in the nation for burn care.

The MREA staff has enjoyed holding this annual event over the past 12 years and its wonderful to see the membership including electric co-op and vendor members getting together provide support to burn victims in Minnesota thru the burn centers. Our burn center benefit mission is to provide relief for the families of burn victims in our cooperative family when they need it most, and support the three Minnesota burn centers in providing the latest technologies to ensure that Minnesota residents receive the best treatment possible.
