Thanks to a lot of help from the community, Cottage #2 on the grounds of the Anoka State Hospital is now open and home to at-risk veterans. Senator Jim Abler, a key supporter of the project, gave a big thumbs up when Connexus Energy CEO Greg Ridderbusch presented a $10,000 donation to the Eagle's Healing Nest.

Over the course of the 56 days, many organizations, businesses, individuals, and trades offered skills and donations that contributed to reaching this goal. Individuals offered up their homemade goods to feed volunteers who donated labor from heating, plumbing and fire suppression to painting and cleaning. From mattresses, bedding, lamps, rugs, and more, the community stepped up and made Cottage No. 2 a secure, inviting home.

While this project is housing veterans, it has also ensured the preservation of a historic building; one that may otherwise have been demolished. Help is still needed! Cottage No. 4 is ready to receive the same care to turn on its lights and open its doors for female veterans in the near future.

If you have time to give or skills to offer, please contact Sen. Jim Abeler at (612)245-3764 or via email at sen.jim.abeler@senate.mn. Follow updates on the Facebook page Friends of Homeless Vets. To make a monetary donation, please visit www.eagleshealingnest.com.
